My name is Carolyn Bankston. I have worked as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, with adults, for twenty-four years. During this time, I have witnessed a great deal of suffering, which manifests as looking outside oneself to buoy self-esteem, instead of feeling an internal sense of calm, control and contentedness. I describe this as living outside-in instead of living inside-out.
People often come to me when they are deep in crisis, made evident through the prism of anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. Symptoms such as these are typically signposts to a greater conflict within. Psychotherapy is an opportunity to create lasting change.
Crisis in Greek means to sift, and deep self-reflection is essentially internal sifting. My goal in helping others sort through internal chaos is to create a healthy relationship with oneself. This essential relationship is the basis for a fulfilled life.
